The D-802K is one of the finest sounding Discman models ever made.
When I finally got one in perfect working order (low hours, that took quite a few units), I was simply blown away by how good it sounded.
It sounded like a dynamic rich wall of sound, with good headphones.
There are drawbacks of course, it's not exactly portable in terms of size/weight, feels more like a small brick, but if you want SOUND and BUILD, this is the one to get on the budget.
A minty 802K sounds much better than D-5 (no treble harshness) and slightly better than D-2 (more clarity/transparency).
Naturally, D-25 and D-10 are both better and somewhat more compact, but look at those skyrocketing prices...
All post-1995 Discman models cannot compare, they lack drive/dynamics, power and sound thin in comparison.
The 802K is a successor to 180K (= 800K), with a better, more clear sound.
The overall sonic signature is the same, robust, meaty and mighty, with huge soundstage, it's just that 802K sounds about 20% more clear.
That difference was consistent, as I tested six of them side to side back in 2012, to choose the one to keep for my collection (this is the one).
