NICE GEMS IN BEAUTIFUL SHAPE; WORK AND SOUND LIKE NEW
Super clean pair, dust-free, smoke-free; all original drivers and X-overs; the grilles are MINT!
They will be tested for a local Ottawa area buyer on the front porch with a good vintage amp and CD player;
Can be shipped, keep reading.
The 33 II are grossly under radar (at the moment) and are unlike any other Celestion speakers, except possibly SL6 and SL600, all monitor type designs.
They have nothing in common with early Ditton 33 except the name.
They are very precise, yet musical. Not many were made. For the price, nothing compares.
The 33 II were designed from the ground up as studio monitors, basically a clone of classic Rogers LS3/6 monitors, that sell for 2K used.
Take a look to believe instantly:

They are also almost identical to Spendor monitors of the same breed, namely BC1 and BC2 ($1000-$1400 per pair in 2021):

There's a French thread dedicated to this very topic, Google for translation:

The sound is simply fantastic, huge, clear and balanced and brings smile to your face!
Every small change in source and eq adjustment is easily heard.
The live performances sound exactly as they should in real life.

Translated from French:
"It is this thread on the Ditton 33 II that gave me the opportunity to join you.
Let's say it right off the bat: in my experience, this is the most unfairly overlooked high-level speaker that I know of.
It is indeed, not an evolution of the first 33, but an interpretation by Célestion of the architecture of the famous Spendor BC I, namely:
-A bass-medium of 21 cm (= 8 ");
-A "low" tweeter, the HF 1300;
-A 19mm mylar dome super-tweeter.
The Spendor had a house woofer with a molded frame, and the super-tweeter was a Coles 4001,
which was nothing more than an "inverted" microphone capsule (in its operation as a transducer).
The body was of a fairly old design, with a recessed HP support cabinet resulting in edge effects
not only measurable but audible. Indeed, the sound was very rich, but a little confused, especially since the bass was not exempt from a box tonic.
Today these models (BC I, II & III) benefit from a fashion effect for vintage and the prestigious reference
of the BBC (well, that of the time ...), not to mention the snobbery of the brand that the lambda beijing does not know; in short: they are largely overestimated!
On the other hand, the 33 / II, the pôvre,bears a name known to the general public, so not classy enough, isn't it?
Well, let's stay serious: I discovered on the photos (thank you neither French nor Breton! ;)
That the bass-medium of this Celestion does not have the injected metal chassis of the 44.
It is really the only component in relation to it. à la Spendor, and besides, Celestion actually produces a lighter bass, provided the speaker is not placed on the ground!. The other transducers are at least as good, since we find the HF 1300, an evolution distinguished by its flat mounting plate, and the HF 2006 "goes up in the air" as high as the Coles, with a higher power handling capacity. . The filter is less complex, but in this series, the components are of excellent quality, and if this copy has not remained without singing for too long, the change of the capas can wait; in any case, they are certainly in much better condition than the condos of the associated amplifier! A final word on the box, much less subject to side effects than the Spendor, and we will understand that the overall results of this speaker are, to my taste in any case, much better than those of its predecessor by a good dozen d 'year: c'is that the manufacturers in the meantime have not remained with both feet in the same shoe!
To be honest, our friend Malouinsuis is in possession of a real gem, but does not realize it because the rest of the chain, in particular the amplifier, cannot exploit its potential.
Suitably positioned on ad hoc supports , this model is perfectly capable of doing justice to associated elements of first-class, like Croft hybrid amplifier (£ 1000 the integrated 2X45W!) and high-end source.
It is only after a move upmarket that the possible replacement of the capas would be audible.
We still have to find the same values, and I come to a question that interests me in particular:
I have a home speaker project starting from a set of HP, all Celestion, including the HF 1300 & 2006, so the 33 II filter values would come in handy. : mrgreen: "
