Nordmende Turandot C Vintage German Radio Introduction
What do we have here? This is a rare fully operational, just serviced, all original vintage solid state superheterodyne radio made by Nordmende in West Germany in 1966/67. It is in overall excellent condition. Controls are noise-free, include its original removable power cord, and both display light bulbs are working. It is a North American version taking our regular 120 VAC directly from the wall without voltage converter.
Features include:
- FM and BC (broadcast which is AM) bands
- tone control button which adjust bass/treble balance
- built in antenna and connection for external antennas
- DIN plug input for tape/phono
- solid brass tuning string pulley and power input pins
- desirable vintage oil-in-paper capacitors
Its recent test/service includes the following:
- removal of electronics for bench test and cleanup access
- clean away 5 decades of dust buildup from the PCB components and inside the wooden case
- treat all switches, fuse holder, antenna port, and volume control with Nu-Trol control cleaner
- clean and treat input power pins (both male and female ends) with DeOxit red and gold
- adjust dial adjuster string tension
- electrical check of several key components
- clean dial display and buttons
- adjust calibration of dial indicator to properly align with station frequencies
Despite this TLC, I have priced it lower than the couple similar Turandot C and equivalents I see on the market. It is ready to literally "plug and play." Would be a great addition for MCM interiors, or vintage radio collectors.
