This book was published on the occasion of the centennial of the National Geographic Society. 289 pages; more than 670 colour maps; 800 photos (of which several measure the full 60 x 46 cm of double pages) and illustrations, plus many charts and graphs, scholarly essays and fun-to-read illustrated timelines of salient historical events (at the bottom of many pages). The accompanying folio (that fits in the sleeve with the book) contains 10 double-sided folded "Guide Maps to U.S. History" and one acetate overlay. The overlay has four USA maps at different scales which, when placed over maps in the book, adds rivers or current state borders in black. There is also a handy 23 x 15.5 cm flexible Fresnel loupe. This is the "Deluxe edition". (The plain edition has a different ISBN.) The book, the sleeve and all the folded maps are in pristine condition. The soft folio has a crease.
