Legendary Microsoft Multimedia Keyboard 1.0A (KB-0168) refurbish Introduction
Storytime:
My good friend Brandon gave me this in high school, I gave it to my cousin to use, but is abandoned. I know how legendarily awesome it was in the 2000's when I used it in the time of Windows XP, Napster, ICQ, MSN Messenger, eMule, KaZAA, AMD Athlon XP, Creative Sound Blaster, degaussing CRT Monitors, and playing Flash games on Microsoft Internet Explorer. I had to refurbish it and give it to someone else to enjoy.
Warning:
This keyboard is not a USB keyboard!
It is an older "system interrupter" PS/2 keyboard which has less gaming lag than a USB "at the mercy of your polling rate" connection.
Refurbished by me:
1. 99% Isopropyl alcohol and Q-Tips to remove brown grime from all keycap top surfaces.
2. Removed all keycaps and left them soaking in hot water and Palmolive dish soap to clean the side walls.
3. Used a nylon brush, Q-Tips, 99% isopropyl alcohol, and hot water to clean the keyboard frame/basin.
4. Used Scotch-Brite pads on the white plastic keyboard palm rest and frame to remove the yellowing, but lost the textured plastic. Now it is smooth as a baby's bum bum.
5. 99% Isopropyl alcohol, Bounty paper towels, and Q-Tips to clean the plastic PS/2 cable.
6. There is a 7 mm2 faint orange hue that I cannot remove from the bottom right palm rest area.
