This was purchased for a college student who never took chemistry in high school, just to provide him with an edge in being introduced to new material that was daunting. By watching it for 15 minutes at a time, absorbing the concepts presented and replaying the unclear information, it provided a big push in both discovery and comprehension. My son says these lectures really help him to better understand chemistry. As a home school student, he reads a text and participates in group lab. Yet, the dvd provides the lecture component that he would get in a class setting. The lecture also gives him an alternative and additional approach to the material; especially nice if the text alone was not clear to him. The professor is very good at presenting the material, explaining it, and keeping it interesting. ....... My homeschooled 15 year old was having a hard time really "connecting" to her chemistry textbook and I was concerned that she'd not retain the teaching. So, I went searching and nearly bought this set at full price, when I happened upon it second-hand through Amazon (a savings of about $200.00). My girl loves this teacher and really needed these lectures to make the deep connections to the subject that will lay the foundation for her to move forward in next year's college classes. He manages to keep her interest which is no small accomplishment at this age. This is an excellent set from a teacher that LOVES his subject! .......
