The raw material used to make this Panama Hat is born in the tropical jungle of the Ecuadorian Coast. The “Carludovica Palmata” is the ideal natural fiber to make the best hand woven hats. During the transformation of the straws from its natural state to fiber, this process includes cooking it in water. This type of work requires experience and knowledge. Expert craftsmen with the ability & unique skills, use their hands & transform these stems into fine fibers that later are transformed to thread & woven into a hat. The hats are washed in hot water, thoroughly checked to see if there are any impurities or bacteria that might be stuck on them. After the hats washed, they are dried in the sun ... this exposure lets them acquire an even dry & it brings out the moisture, giving it a spectacular shine.
