Selling this sweet vintage 1987 Miele Aries 400 mountain bike that I have fully restored and upgraded to a 1x drivetrain.
This is a classic steel made-in-Canada Miele, in a unique vintage colorway. The frame has some scratches and patina, but I fully polished and waxed the finish, and rust-coated the inside of the frame.
This bike needed extensive restoration work as I picked it up with a seized seat post. It took a few hours of hard work but I was able to remove the old seat post without damaging the bike. See photo.
I fitted a brand new Evo alloy seat post (and lots of grease!) and a brand new Raleigh saddle.
I fitted brand new Tektro brakes front and rear, including the arms, pads, levers and cabling.
I changed the drivetrain to a 1x6, using a brand new 42t chainring at the front and a friction shifter.
I replaced the bottom bracket with a new unit and replaced the headset bearings. Both spin smoothly without play.
The tires are like-new with lots of tread remaining. They're Geax (Vittoria) Evolutions in 26x1.90".
This bike is a size L/XL, with a 21" seat tube. Best for riders 5'10" and taller. At 6'2" I'm in the middle of its adjustment range.
This would be a great vintage 26er commuter bike – upon request i can attach a rear rack.
Asking $325 o.b.o.
