Mid-‘70’s SuperCycle X-100 3-Speed Banana seat bike (Rare)
Built in Canada by CCM, for Canadian Tire, a rare BOYS bike!
We purchased this Cougar X-100 from a collection about 12 years ago… It appears the 15” frame was re-painted.
All components appear period-correct. There is a small steel trim cap missing from the lower crossbar.
The banana seat, rear sissy-bar, hand grips, brake calipers, brake cables and pads all appear to have been replaced, and are in good condition. The only significant surface rust is on one area of the rear fender, and minor light surface rust on the handlebar (this should clean up with SOS pad). The brake levers are original-appearing and are in good condition.
The chrome seat post is scratched; replacement posts are readily available. The chain guard is original-appearing and mounted with factory hardware. It is in very good condition, with a few light crank-arm scratches near the script. The pedals are original-appearing, showing typical wear to the rubber pads and the spindles are tarnished. The reflectors are in good condition.
The Sturmey-Archer “Sport-Shift” gear selector appears to be a replacement unit. The three speeds are fully functional. The 20” wheel rims are original-appearing and in good condition. The rear hub is the lubricant-reservoir type, and is in good condition. The tires are replacement Dunlop Red Line tires, and are period-correct. The tires are worn and have noticeable sidewall cracks, and should be replaced if bike is going to be ridden. The dual-leg kick-stand is a period-correct accessory.
Overall this is a great old-school Cougar X-100 . It does show some patina; indicative of a 40-plus year-old bike that was ridden regularly in the distant past. With a bit more detailing, it would make a nice display model as- is, or to ride… if the tires were replaced. We have done our best to describe all visible and relevant details about this bike.
The 70’s are calling… they want their bike back. So please act soon if you want it!
