SANYO CDP-55 DISCMAN PORTABLE CD PLAYER WITH EQ * JAPAN * 1993

SANYO CDP-55 DISCMAN PORTABLE CD PLAYER WITH EQ * JAPAN * 1993 Introduction

A clone of Onkyo DX-F71, they are almost the same inside, except the display light switch and some internal parts; Superb build and amazing sound quality! CLASSIC MODEL, CLEAN, SERVICED, WORKS AND SOUNDS GREAT Laser lens was cleaned, transport rail and gears were lubed, volume potentiometer and other switches were deoxed using pro grade D100/G5, to assure smooth performance This Sanyo CD player will be tested for a local Ottawa area buyer at the front door with a nice vintage amp and speakers; Can be shipped, keep reading. The CDP-55 a famous model (yes, the circuitry inside is identical to CDP-55A, and they look almost the same). The big plus is that in 1993 Sanyo still made them in Japan. In 1994 production was moved in China. The sound quality is slightly better than Technics SL-XP2, and not far from SL-XP5, and the same exact sonic signature, big sound with translucent midrange, in other words, better than almost all after 1990 production Sony Discman models, and that is a big statement for a plain looking boxy Discman. Inside (see pics), it's almost exclusively Sanyo chipset (with few Fujitsu chips added) and Sanyo transport/laser. The design itself is pretty remarkable, because Sanyo engineers managed to fully utilize the potential of new technology 1-bit DACs, with far less power consumption: this Discman runs on only 2 AA cells, and sounds better than 16-bit Sony D-20 and Sony D-800K that run on 4 cells, not to mention dinosaur Realistic CD-3250 from 1991 that took 6 AA cells and sounded totally horrible compared to this Sanyo! Externally/dimension/wise, CDP-55 looks similar to Sony D-34 / D-33 (but sounds better). * Made In Japan, 1993 * Laser/pickup mechanism: Sanyo SF 92.5 (mostly metal) * DAC: Sanyo LC92080 with 4X oversampling * Digital filter: The 4-times oversampling means a less evil Brick Filter * Computer: Sanyo/Fujitsu MB89655A * Actuator/motor driver: Sanyo LB8106 * CMOS/RAM: Fujitsu 81C4256A * Anti-Shock: On/Off (5-sec, I believe); the best sound is always with antishock off, any CD player * Volume wheel * Program mode * Set * Play/Pause, Stop, Next , Previous * Headphones Out * Line Out * Equalizer switch (Bass, Mids and Treble): Flat, A, B * Power: 2 x AA cells or optional 3V DC wall plug/adapter LINKS: https://www.head-fi.org/threads/legendary-pcdps.12219/ CAD $116 plus shipping/brokerage fees: https://www.ebay.ca/itm/235406850405 QUOTE: "I can add, that my old Sanyo CDP-55A single-handedly beats the Panasonic SL-CT570 (line-outs and headamp used...). An audiophile friend of mine has also got the CDP-55A - and he's also still positively surprised about its sound quality.
